The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas offers generous passenger and cargo space that is among the largest in the mid-size three-row SUV segment. It offers comfortable seats for up to seven passengers, with easy access to the third row. An option for seating six with second-row captainās chairs is available on most trims. Behind the seats is 20.6 cubic feet of space, expanding to 96.6 cubic feet of space behind the front seats when all seats are folded down.
All models are available with the 4Motion all-wheel drive system, which is standard on upper trim levels. The 2026 Atlas features performance that combines efficiency and great acceleration ā the kind you expect in a Volkswagen. All 2026 Atlas models are powered by the new āEvo4ā 2.0-liter inline-4 TSIĀ® engine, rated at 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. It is connected through an eight-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to either the front wheels or through the 4Motion all-wheel drive system. If you are looking to hitch a trailer to the 2026 Atlas, it is capable of a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds on SE models. For more towing capacity, SE with Technology models and up can pull a maximum 5,000-pound braked rating with the standard trailer hitch. The 2026 Atlas has an EPA-estimated MPG of 20/27/23 for FWD models. All SE models with 4Motion are rated at 20/26/22 MPG. All SEL and Peak Edition trims with 4Motion are rated at 19/25/21 MPG. All models have stop-start technology standard for better efficiency at traffic lights and stop signs. |
Exterior

The 2026 Atlas simply looks the part to invite families to ride along. It starts with a large grille flanking a pair of 900-lumen LED headlights, including the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) on all models, along with Light Assist. This is an auto-high beam assist feature. AFS features swivel-mounted lamps to improve road illumination when cornering or driving around curves. Overhead, roof rails are standard on all models, with a black finish on all SE models and the Peak Edition and a silver finish on SEL models. The 2026 Atlas features attractive wheel designs, starting with 18-inch alloy wheels on the SE, expanding to 20-inch for the SE with Technology and SEL, and 21-inch two-tone alloys for the SEL Premium R-Line. Peak Edition models are fitted with all-terrain tires and are adorned with black trim and unique front-end trim. Atlas models feature 6.3 inches of ground clearance and 20.8 and 21.3/21.1-degree departure angles. Peak Edition and all SEL trims feature a 4.5x3-foot panoramic sunroof with a two-part glass opening and power sunshade. |

The elegant dash design in the Atlas maintains clean and functional usability, with dashboard trim that flows seamlessly into the door panels for an upscale look. Standard across the model line are heated and ventilated front seats and ClimatronicĀ® three-zone automatic climate control. An available ambient interior lighting package gives owners up to 30 color choices. The Atlas makes maximum use of its three-row seating layout to offer space for seven adults or six if equipped with the second-row captainās chairs. The cavernous 154 cu-ft of total passenger volume includes legroom of 41.7/37.6/33.7 inches for the first, second, and third rows. The standard second-row bench seat is split 60/40 for cargo/passenger flexibility, can slide fore and aft 7.7 inches to adjust for third-row passengers, and offers 14 degrees of backrest recline. Access to the third row is easy due to an innovative folding mechanism for the second row that both slides and tilts the second row forward, even with child seats in place. Standard on all models are heated and ventilated front seats, and the driverās seat has a 10-way power adjustment. |
Technology

Sitting high upon the redesigned dash is a 12-inch floating information touchscreen display that is standard on all models. All models feature six USB-C ports, with all but the rearview mirror port providing 45-watt fast charging. Standard on all models is the Digital Cockpit system with a fully digital 10.25-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro instrument cluster that can be configured with up to four views, including a full navigation display on models so equipped. SE with Technology models and above offer SiriusXM with 360L, which combines satellite and streaming content delivery into a single, cohesive in-vehicle entertainment experience for a three-month trial and subsequently available by subscription. The system monitors choices to provide āFor Youā recommendations to help you discover more of what you love. It also includes an enhanced sports play-by-play offering that makes finding your favorite team easier during game time. On the SEL Premium R-Line, owners can listen to all of this through the 400-watt, 12-channel Harman-KardonĀ® Premium Audio System, which was designed to create the atmosphere of a live performance inside the cabin. A 15-watt wireless charger is included as standard on all Atlas trim levels for your devices. |
