The radiator in your VW works continuously to maintain an efficient engine operating temperature. The engine temperature needs to be at a specific level, generally between 195 F and 220 F, but higher temperatures can cause engine damage. If you need a radiator repair, your VW dealership can fix it for you. These are a few of the issues we can repair.

Faulty Water Pump

The water pump has the vital job of pumping coolant through your engine. As the coolant passes over hot engine components, it draws in heat and transports this heat to the radiator for removal. The pump can operate at different speeds to control the engine temperature. When you accelerate, the engine temperature rises, and the pump speeds up until the engine temperature falls to its normal operating level.

The pump can fail due to age or damage. It can also be affected by electrical problems like a blown fuse or damaged wiring. If your pump isn’t working, coolant will still be released, but it won’t be able to move. The lack of fast-moving coolant will cause your engine to overheat. Our technicians will examine your pump and fix the problem.

Damaged Radiator Cap

The cooling system operates under high pressure, which allows it to work speedily and efficiently to control the engine temperature. The radiator cap screws tightly into the top of the radiator, and it maintains the system pressure. If the temperature inside the cooling system rises too high, the cap will temporarily open to bleed off the excess pressure.

The cap has seals that ensure an airtight fit. These seals are exposed to constant high temperatures, and over time, they can become worn. A damaged seal can allow coolant to leak out. This leak will drop the pressure in the system, coolant movement will slow down, and your engine can overheat. We can fix this problem by replacing the seals or the cap, depending on the situation.

Broken Thermostat

The thermostat monitors engine temperature, and when the temperature reaches a certain level, it will open and release coolant into the engine. It’s a relatively simple component, but it can still become worn or damaged. A damaged thermostat will jam open or closed, and this will cause additional engine problems.

A thermostat that jams open will continue to release coolant, which drops the engine temperature. At a low operating temperature, your engine will use more gas. If the thermostat jams closed, the coolant won’t be released, and your engine will overheat. Our technicians can replace the thermostat, and your engine temperature will return to normal.
